Vale of Glamorgan good practise

The Welsh assembly asks all Local Authorities to collect figures on how many staff leave each year and the Vale decided to also ask staff why.

You can see the report by putting this link into your search engine. Look for Paragraphs 23 to 30.

Only 19 of the 214 people who left between April to September 2015 responded, so managers were asked and they thought that 42% left because of, “career development”, 26% were looking for alternative employment because of, “personal, family, or social”, reasons, and 16% because of,”working hours”.

A majority of the 19 respondents did say, “nothing would entice me to stay”, but this could easily be another way of saying, “I’ve made my mind up”.

The report also looks at how the Vale compares with other authorities. In the public sector the average voluntary turnover rate is 11.5%. The total average labour turnover rate for public sector organisations was 14.1%. The turnover rate for the Vale of Glamorgan Council for 2014/15 was below these comparisons with an overall turnover of 8.64%.
